Privacy policy
Draft, not yet in effect
This policy explains how North Shore Home Co ("North Shore Home", "we", "us") handles information when you use North Shore Home: the connector for Muse and other AI assistants, our web pages (the house page, approval pages, job pages and contractor profiles), the emails we send and receive, and this website. Questions: support@northshorehome.co.
The short version
- We keep a record of your house that you and your assistant build, and we use it only to help you look after your house and get work done.
- Nothing goes to a contractor without your OK. What your assistant drafts goes only once you approve the exact message on an approval page; when you answer a contractor by replying to one of our notice emails, the new text of your reply goes to them as you wrote it (we leave out the earlier messages quoted below it, and signatures we recognize). Contractors see the request and the facts you chose to share. We don't give them your email, phone or street address: the address goes out with a visit you confirm, and anything you write in a message to a contractor reaches them as you wrote it.
- We don't sell your information, use it for advertising, or use it to train AI models.
- Your assistant (for example, Muse) is run by another company under its own privacy policy. We receive only what it sends us.
- You can correct or hide anything on your house page, download a copy of your record, or delete it.
If you're a homeowner
What we collect
- Your house record: facts about your house and its systems (the roof, furnace, water heater and so on), each with where it came from: your own words, or excerpts of documents and emails your assistant found, such as closing papers, inspections, invoices and warranties. Photos you add, kept as you sent them, including any location data they carry.
- Projects: what you need done, the request your assistant drafts with you, the contractors you chose, their replies and quotes, visit times you offer, your approvals and what happened.
- Account details: the email address you sign in with, your home's address, and where you'd like notices to go. Sign-in codes and connection tokens are stored only as one-way hashes.
- Activity history: each change to your record, with which connection made it and when.
Your assistant decides what to send us, following your instructions. If you ask it to set up your house from your email, it reads your email through its own connection and sends us the excerpts and facts it records, not your mailbox. We never connect to your email account ourselves.
How we use it
- To keep your record and give it back to you and the assistants you connect.
- To send the requests, answers and decisions you approve, and the email replies you write to contractors, to the contractors you chose; bring their replies back to you; and email you notices about them.
- To answer contractors' questions on a job page from the request and the facts you chose to share (below).
- To keep each household's record separate, keep the service secure, and fix problems.
What contractors see
When you approve a request, we email the contractors you chose a short note in your words and a one-page brief, with a link to a job page. They see the request, the photos you attached (with location and camera data removed) and the house facts you let contractors see. They reply through a private North Shore Home address, so we don't give them your email address or phone number. We send your street address to a contractor when you confirm a visit with them. Contact details or an address you write into a request, answer or reply yourself go to the contractor as written. Contractors can ask questions on the job page; an AI model answers from the request and the facts you chose to share, or the question comes to you. When you answer a contractor's question by replying to our notice email, a plain answer is also shown to the other contractors on that request; the notice email says so before you reply. One contractor never sees another's words.
If you're a contractor
We keep your business name and the address our requests go to, the requests we send you, your replies and attachments, how quickly you reply, and the outcomes you're told. Your replies go to the homeowner who asked and to their assistant, never to other contractors. If you claim a free profile, we keep the details you add and the plan you choose; no plan charges anything yet. Your profile is built from your own replies, read by an AI model. To stop receiving requests, reply STOP to any request.
Who else handles information
- Your assistant and its provider, through the connection you authorized when you signed in. They handle what they read under their own terms; you can end the connection at any time.
- Contractors, only as described above: what you approved, and the replies you write to them.
- Service providers that run parts of North Shore Home for us under contract, and may use information only to provide their service to us: Cloudflare (hosting, database, file storage and logs), Resend (sending and receiving our email), Anthropic (the AI model that answers contractors' job-page questions and summarizes contractors' own replies for their profiles) and Google Workspace (our own mailbox).
- For legal reasons, when we believe in good faith the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety or property of you, us or others; and in a business transfer such as a merger or sale, subject to this policy.
The people who run North Shore Home can access stored data. We look at the content of a record only to help when you ask, to investigate a security or abuse problem, or when the law requires it.
How long we keep it
- Your house record, projects and messages: while your account is open. Hiding a fact on your house page takes it out of what your assistant and contractors see from then on; requests, briefs, answers and emails already sent keep what they said when they went out. Deleting a document removes it and the facts resting on it.
- Deleting your record, from Settings on your house page, takes a fresh code we email you. The database records go at once. Removing stored files and ending your assistant's connection starts right away and continues every minute until it is done. A household document that another owner's project still uses stays with the household. In a shared home, the last owner's delete removes the whole household, including other members' projects; an owner while another owner remains removes only their own account, connections, the projects they started and the documents only they could see, and the house record stays with the other owner. Emails already delivered stay in the contractors' inboxes, and their job pages stop working.
- Our request logs (which operation, its result and when, never what you sent): deleted after 30 days on the live service (our test service keeps its logs for testing). Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, keeps its own backups and logs (including your IP address and software name) for the periods its own policies set.
Your choices
- See, confirm, correct or hide anything about your house on your house page, or tell your assistant.
- Choose where notices go, in Settings on your house page.
- Download a copy of your record, or delete it, from Settings on your house page. The copy has your house facts with their sources, the text saved from the emails and documents read (the full text, or the passages saved from it), and every project with its request, who was asked, approvals, every email sent and received, quotes, invoices and payments. Photos and files are listed (by type and size, or by file name for email attachments), not included, and anything you hid stays out.
- For anything else, such as deleting one document, email support@northshorehome.co. We may need to confirm the request comes from you. We honor these requests for everyone, wherever they live.
- End an assistant's connection by removing North Shore Home in your assistant, and ask us to end it on our side too.
Security
Connections are encrypted. Signing in uses a one-time code sent to your email; there are no passwords. Each connection reaches only its own household's record. An assistant can't approve anything that reaches a contractor, confirm facts for you or end connections: only you can, on your own pages. No system is perfectly secure; if a problem affects your information, we will tell you as the law requires. Report a security problem to security@northshorehome.co.
Children
North Shore Home is for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18.
Where information is processed
North Shore Home serves homes in the United States, starting on Chicago's North Shore. Our providers may process information in other countries to deliver their services.
Changes
We will post changes here and update the date. If a change materially affects information we already hold, we will email account holders before it takes effect.
