Terms of service

Draft, not yet in effect

These terms are an agreement between you and North Shore Home Co ("North Shore Home", "we", "us") about your use of North Shore Home: the connector for Muse and other AI assistants, our web pages and emails, and this website (together, the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to these terms and to our privacy policy.

1. Who can use the Service

You must be at least 18 and able to form a binding contract. Homeowners may keep a record only for a home they own, live in or are authorized to manage. The Service is for homes in the United States, and we currently send requests only to contractors on Chicago's North Shore.

2. Early access

The Service is new. Features may change, pause or end, and it may have errors. We will tell you before a change that affects what we send on your behalf.

3. Your account

4. Your assistant

You use North Shore Home through an AI assistant you choose, such as Muse. It is provided by another company under its own terms. We don't control it and aren't responsible for what it says or does, including how it reads your record or your instructions. The Service limits what an assistant can do (it can't approve anything that reaches a contractor), but check what it tells you and what it drafts before you rely on it or approve it.

5. Requests to contractors

When you approve a request, an answer, a visit or a decision on an approval page, you authorize us to email exactly that message to the contractors it names, from a North Shore Home address, and to bring their replies back to you. When you reply to one of our notice emails, you authorize us to send the new text of your reply to that contractor as you wrote it (without the earlier messages quoted below it, or signatures we recognize). We don't book work, take payments or sign anything for you. Any agreement for work is between you and the contractor.

6. Contractors

Contractors are independent businesses. We don't employ, license, insure or guarantee them or their work, even when we suggest them. We ask contractors who receive requests to reply honestly, to use a homeowner's information only to respond to and carry out that job, and not to contact the homeowner outside the request unless the homeowner shares their details. Being suggested to homeowners is free. A claimed profile and plan choice are free for now; we will ask for your agreement before charging for anything.

7. Your content

You keep ownership of what you, your assistant or your replies add to the Service ("Your Content"). You give us permission to store, copy, process and display Your Content only to provide, secure and improve the Service, as described in the privacy policy, including sharing it with the people you approve. You confirm you have the right to provide it, including documents and photos.

8. Not professional advice

Summaries, comparisons, AI answers and anything your assistant tells you are general information, not engineering, inspection, legal, financial or insurance advice. Check with a qualified professional before acting, especially on work affecting safety, structure or code compliance.

9. Acceptable use

Don't use the Service against the law or anyone's rights; try to reach another household's or business's data or get around security or access limits; overload, disrupt or reverse-engineer it; use it to send spam; or upload malicious code or content you have no right to share. Report security problems as described on the support page.

10. Fees

The Service is free for homeowners. We will tell you in advance, and ask for your agreement, before charging anyone for anything.

11. Ending your use

You can stop at any time and delete your record from your house page. We may suspend or end access if you break these terms or to protect the Service or others. If we end the Service, we will give at least 30 days' notice where we can, and a chance to get a copy of your record.

12. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement, and we don't promise the Service or your record will be uninterrupted, error-free, complete or accurate.

13. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or lost profits, data or goodwill, and our total liability for any claim about the Service is limited to the greater of $100 or what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you.

14. Indemnity

To the extent the law allows, you agree to cover our reasonable losses and costs from third-party claims arising from Your Content or your breach of these terms.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes will be resolved in the state or federal courts in Cook County, Illinois, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction.

16. Changes and general

We may update these terms; we will post changes here, update the date, and email account holders before a material change takes effect. These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement about the Service. If part can't be enforced, the rest still applies; not enforcing a term doesn't waive it. You may not transfer these terms without our consent; we may in a business transfer.
